There are a select few “Hey, Suzy” comments over the course of my life that will never, ever leave me.
A friend once snapped me out of a bout of house-lust with, “Hey, Suzy, there is no last best deal.” That simple line saved me a ton of aggravation – and a pile of cold, hard cash, thank God.
Another mom once interrupted an overprotective parenting decision with, “Hey, Suzy, you cannot make their mistakes for them.” Ah, yes, that’s right. We only fail our children when we never let them fail themselves. As painful as that is.
A mentor once exorcised my self-doubt to rest with, “Hey, Suzy, don’t worry, you’ve done impossible things before.” I still whisper that to myself about ten times a day.

This weekend, another zinger entered the “Hey Suzy” Hall of Fame.
It came from a woman I’d just met – one of the wonderful 134 people of every age and ilk who traveled from around the world to attend the sixth and most recent Becoming You Three-Day Intensive in New York. (The next, by the way, is coming in October.)

We had just completed the program’s final exercise, and people were at break, mulling their learnings, and frankly, just reflecting about the wild, emotional, eye-opening journey Becoming You tends to be.
I was (to be honest) checking my phone, when she approached me.
“Hey, Suzy,” she said softly, her voice filled with emotion, “I just wanted you to know…I’m hearing a new voice in my head – my own.” She smiled at me. I smiled back. We were suddenly both crying.
Also, I don’t know about her, but I was about to faint.
Because this outcome – this is what Becoming You was born for.
To help you hear your purpose calling.
I think it took me a long time to hear my own voice. Scratch that BS. I know it did. My reasons are just like everybody else’s. Expectations. Fear of failure. Life events. Sometimes it’s just easier to hit your personal mute button and go along to get along.
But this week, a simple “Hey, Suzy” – a new one! – reminded me that lives can change when we knock that off, and let our own voices break through the noise.
In fact, lives can even begin anew. And hey, my dearest ones, isn’t that something to love?

Well, well, well, I have a new roommate and I don't hate her, in fact, I kind of love her, but she scares the bejesus out of me.
Her name is Betty. Very original. But what would you name the bear that has decided your backyard is her favorite place?
Now, some of you know I’m a city girl (because I talk about it constantly; I ❤️ NY), but on many a weekend, I escape to my old farmhouse in the countryside. I often claim this routine is for the sake of the dogs, but this human happens to desperately need a nature fix, too.
It is in the countryside that I befriended Suzy the Swan — the subject of (still) one of my most popular podcast episodes — and way too often bump into snakes, which is why I sometimes walk the dogs shouting, “ALL SNAKES MUST LEAVE THE PREMISES.” Effective!
This is just to say, I am aware nature is not just a pretty picture.
But I did not expect Betty to be ready for her close-up.
In the past week, she has been feasting on my apple trees, and by feasting, I mean…just take a look.
I know winter will soon be here, and Betty will find a cozy spot to take a nap far from my window view. But until then, Betty, my dogs and I, we come in peace. Let’s cuddle?

As part of my Management class at NYU Stern School of Business, I guide my students through the process of developing their unique “Principles of Practice.” In short: their go-to mantras for helping them be a boss who shows up as the same effective, positive person every day.
It dawns on me we all have Principles of Practice about life, too.
For instance, I have one that goes: Never let yourself get estranged from someone you love, or anyone, really.
I also have about 632 others, all hard-earned, usually through getting it wrong first.
I’m wondering, does everyone have a set of life rules? If so, can we share? Send me yours at hello@suzywelch.com. I will report back for further hmm-ing — together!
Speaking of reporting back — thank you for all the “Becoming You On-The-Road” suggestions! There were dozens, from Miami to Minneapolis, and a few international stops too. 🇬🇧🇫🇷🇰🇪 We are excited — and I am determined — to make this a reality in 2026.
Like Betty, I’ll see you in the wild. 🤎🐻

What’s Love Got To Do With It? Becoming You’s Version.

Nobody hates romantic love, but not everybody loves romantic love the same amount. That’s what makes romantic love a value. In this week’s podcast, I share how we can all learn more about our own, personal level of love as a value. That’s information that matters for us individually as we search for our purpose in life, and it's information that could change how we relate to those around us. So, what’s love got to do with it? Just about everything.
